Electrical and Electronic Engineering Systems Degree Apprentice Job Description

Job Summary:

To support the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Systems department developing skills in electrical and electronic circuit design, wiring harness design and manufacture, test rig design, specification, build and commissioning, power electronics, embedded safety critical system design, software development and more.

Working with external partners, you may also review, develop and execute test cases, including propulsion and energy management systems as well as active suspension control, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), infotainment and convenience features such as interior cabin controls.

• Comply with statutory requirements and stringent organisational safety requirements
• Producing or using Electrical or Electronic Drawings using CAD
• Using wiring and testing electrical equipment, assembling, and testing electronic circuits
• Using computer software packages to assist with engineering activities
• Producing engineering project plans
• Scheduling and managing engineering activities
• Producing and working to engineering specifications and briefs, presenting and technical problem solving
• Maintaining and improving electrical equipment and systems

Apprenticeship:

Candidate will be expected to:

• meet the entry criteria for the Electro-Mechanical Degree apprenticeship at ARU.  https://www.aru.ac.uk/study/degree-apprenticeships/apprentice/our-courses/electro-mechanical-engineering
• commit to full participation in the apprenticeship, fully funded by Lotus, who will provide you sufficient time for off the job learning, in accordance with apprenticeship rules.
• regularly travel to the University’s Peterborough campus, whilst undertaking studies.

Please note, this role DOES NOT qualify for VISA sponsorship, this includes candidates that are currently working on a Tier 4 VISA.

Essential Criteria:

You will need to have achieved GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher plus three additional GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher, to include one STEM subject.

In addition, you will need to have achieved or be on track to achieve A-level Maths at grade B or higher and an additional A-level in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology or Engineering at grade C or higher. Alternatively vocational routes such as a T Level or Level 3 apprenticeship, who can still evidence a high level of achievement in analytical subjects. You will need to be self-motivated and hold a passion for problem solving.

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge of and ability to use AutoCAD and other 2D or 3D drawing packages.

• Multilingual
• Basic understanding of digital electronics and microprocessors
• Basic understanding actuators and sensors
• Driving licence
• Willing to pursuit or obtain Relevant Certifications and/or Professional Memberships or at the process of acquiring them
