Battery Engineer - Permanent Role - Location: Wellesbourne, Warwickshire (Remote start)

We're growing our Energy Storage team to support exciting projects working on future Lotus products. As we move in to the next stage of our ambitious Vision80 Strategy, we're looking for experienced and passionate people to join us on our transformational growth path. With a track record in Engineering innovation and excellence, we're keeping our Lotus DNA about lightweighting and driver experience close whilst developing new products which will support our strategic goals. As Battery Engineer, you'll support the definition and execution of our long term Battery strategy, completing documentation of functional requirements and working collaboratively with Geely group contacts to explore Battery Hardware solutions available.


Strategic contribution of this role will be: 

  • Supporting the definition of the long term Lotus Battery strategy.
  • Working with other areas within the Geely group to fully understand all the Battery Hardware solutions being utilised and available to Lotus.


Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Completing documentation of all functional requirements working closely with vehicle, EDU, Battery BMS, HVAC and service teams to establish a thorough requirements set, including Functional Safety, Performance, Service and diagnostic needs.
  • Document and maintain cell database and performance maps.
  • Support BMS calibration and modelling activities.
  • Document and maintain the Battery FMEA and Boundary Diagram
  • Work with hardware and software teams to ensure plans are in place for delivery of software and supporting hardware.
  • Define the validation plan for the Battery System, identifying timing and potential facilities
  • Complete definition of test cases to support validation activity.
  • Ensure all validation activity is fully documented and reported.


You will also report all issues and possibly lead investigation and issue resolution. 


Skills/ experience/ knowledge we're looking for;

  • A degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline. 

  • Experience in delivery of automotive Battery to launch/ production.

  • Experience of working with cell and battery subcomponent suppliers.

  • Proven ability to build networks and manage suppliers.

  • Ability to communicate successfully across all levels of the business. 

  • Ability to work strongly in a team and inclusive environment.

  • Ability to calculate performance characteristics of battery system.

  • Understanding of battery stringing and electrical architecture.

  • Familiarity with typical hardware validation tools.

  • Familiarity with Functional Safety methodology and requirements.

  • Experience with structured problem solving approaches and typical tools such as 8D and Ishikawa.
