General Operative - Norwich, Norfolk £20,275 + SHIFT ALLOWANCES - 3- 6 months temporary potentially longer


Role purpose 

To assemble & fit component parts, to the required quality standard, using a variety of hand or power tools & related equipment. To support supervision & other operators with future build rates.


Roles and responsibilities

  • Strict adherence to process controls is essential to ensure product meets specification
  • Able to understand and follow basic operating instructions and carry out process checks using Vernier’s and plug gauges
  • Picking & inspecting components to a set bill of materials
  • Fitting of various fixings into specified holes in child parts
  • Assemble parts into various sub-assembly and main assembly fixtures
  • Carry out pre-delivery inspection in line with electronic instructions
  • Safely operate crane/lifting equipment
  • Maintain written records & process control sheets, etc.
  • Be at place of work at specified times
  • Meet quality and production targets as set by Supervision
  • Work in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines, including housekeeping of fixtures and surrounding area
  • Use all supplied Personal Protective Equipment & maintain in good condition
  • Follow Company environmental standards, including segregation of all waste
  • Ensure documented processes are followed at all times.
  • To complete tasks in the allocated time
  • To be able to work in a structured manner
  • Understand the need & work within the Company's flexible working patterns
  • Willing to learn new production techniques & processes
  • To have the ability & willingness to work as part of a team
  • Communicate with supervision on concerns & shortages
  • Handle all parts & equipment with care & attention
  • Can work with minimum supervision
  • Candidates may also be required to work in other production areas or assist in other activities that they are deemed to be capable


Essential criteria 

  • Good understanding of English language required to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Productive worker with solid work ethic, flexible, adaptable & diligent
  • Good basic mechanical skills
  • Ability to work under strict time allocation
  • Good hand to eye co-ordination



  • C&G, NVQ or similar, with automotive or assembly elements. Background in garage or assembly line environment. Worked in the automotive sector or in a similar environment
  • Knowledge of torque wrenches and critical elements of vehicle construction.
  • Candidates with limited previous experience will receive training to meet the required standard.
