Job Summary

To support the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Systems and Software department developing skills in electrical and electronic circuit design, wiring harness design and manufacture, test rig design, specification, build and commissioning, power electronics, embedded safety critical system design, software development and more.

Working with external partners, you may also review, develop and execute test cases, including propulsion and energy management systems as well as active suspension control, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), infotainment and convenience features such as interior cabin controls.

In this journey you will have the opportunity to be involved in various projects, engage with stakeholders, and learn all about the impact of packaging in the automotive world’s supply chains, production, and operations.

  • Comply with statutory requirements and stringent organisational safety requirements
  • Producing or using Electrical or Electronic Drawings using CAD
  • Developing Embedded Mechatronic Control Software
  • Developing complex Mechatronic control systems
  • Using wiring and testing electrical equipment, assembling, and testing electronic circuits
  • Using computer software packages to assist with engineering activities
  • Producing engineering project plans
  • Scheduling and managing engineering activities
  • Producing and working to engineering specifications and briefs, presenting and technical problem solving
  • Maintaining and improving electrical equipment and systems

Apprenticeship:

Candidate will be expected to:

  • meet the entry criteria for the Embedded Electronic Systems Design And Development Engineer apprenticeship (Electronic Engineering)  at the University of Essex.  Electronic Engineering | Programme Specifications | University of Essex
  • commit to full participation in the apprenticeship, fully funded by Lotus, who will provide you sufficient time for off the job learning, in accordance with apprenticeship rules.
  • travel to the University of Essex for relevant study.

 

Essential Criteria:

You will need to have achieved GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 or higher plus three additional GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher, to include one STEM subject.

In addition, you will need to have achieved or be on track to achieve A-level Maths at grade B or higher and an additional A-level in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology or Engineering at grade C or higher. You will need to be self-motivated and hold a passion for problem solving.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of and ability to develop software, ideally for embedded systems (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, MicroPython, C/C++, Matlab/Simulink)
  • Multilingual
  • Basic understanding of digital electronics and microprocessors
  • Basic understanding actuators and sensors
  • Driving licence
  • Willing to pursuit or obtain Relevant Certifications and/or Professional Memberships or at the process of acquiring them
