Lead Engineer Vehicle Dynamics - Ride, Handling and Steering - Permanent - Hethel, Norfolk


Focussing on Ride, Handling & Steering, this role poses an exciting opportunity to join the Lotus team and build upon our reputation as being at the forefront of driver experience. You'll be working on the next generation of Lotus Cars, initially Evija, ensuring they all drive like a Lotus should. This means instant feedback for the driver, an unparralleld ride and superb handling. You'll be working as part of the team dedicated to this. With a deep understanding of developing vehicle dynamics performance, coupled with an appreciation of what makes a Lotus a Lotus, the impact of what you deliver will be felt throughout our future models by every driver of our cars. 


With responsibility for the hands on technical delivery of projects against performance targets, you'll develop specific test processes and procedures to ensure the optimal output of our vehicles from the Ride, Handling and Steering perspective. This will include objective and subjective testing of our vehicles throughout development stage. 


You'll travel with the vehicles to global test sites to put the car through its paces. Managing and organising all these tests and generating reports and evidence packs off the back of them. 


Based from our site in Hethel, Norfolk, you'll work on vehicles on our legendary track where all Lotus Cars are tested and optimised to provide the ultimate driving experience. 


Skills & Experience we're looking for; 

  • Strong vehicle dynamic subjective assessment skills relating to Ride, Handling & Steering
    • Damper tuning (Including Electronic Variable)
    • Elastokinematics
    • Springs (Coil & Air)
    • ARBs
    • Steering development
  • Experience developing active chassis components and EPAS systems
  • Experience calibrating active chassis systems
  • Theoretical understanding of vehicle dynamic principles coupled with physical testing experience
  • A deep understanding of vehicle attributes for High Performance vehicles
  • High level of driving ability focussed on road vehicle development
  • Experience working with European vehicle dynamics test facilities


This role is based in Hethel, Norfolk and will require international travel as required for vehicle testing at Third Party sites.
