About the Role:

 

Lotus Cars is looking to engage an Emissions Lab Manager to develop the emissions lab resources and deliver processes, to achieve the state-of-the-art facilities, aspired to by the business.

 

The role involves ensuring the correct skills and facilities are available and assigned to projects, in accordance with cost and time targets.

 

The successful candidate will be required to manage the infrastructure and resource, to deliver a fully functional, operational, and fit for purpose Emissions Lab Test facility, including calibration and maintenance of the facility.

 

This also requires providing technical support and management to provide and maintain Lotus' ability to carry out vehicle emission testing, to support the product development and client requirements, by use of specialised Stars-Vets software / programmes to meet all the relevant legal and quality requirements for test processes.

 

The main focus is customer markets of Europe, USA, China, Japan & any other market we export too, within the limits of our laboratory equipment, as part of vehicle calibration development and vehicle HVAC, PHEV, EV programs.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Manage the emissions test and development works, producing weekly test plans, to form the outline of the work, with the ability to 'flex' test plans at very short notice, to accommodate changes in test requirements in iterative testing programmes.
  • Manage the test plans for all emission related projects and identify the shortfall in labour and mitigate any delays.
  • Provide Lotus Manufacturing with the capability to carry out the Conformity of Production (COP) testing.
  • Ensure the facility of legal compliance and authenticity of results for each project.
  • Work closely with Type Approval, with relation to test process requirements, particularly any changes in legislation, to ensure legislative compliance, where any actions required justify future investment in equipment.
  • Be responsible for the compliance and calibration of the emissions test systems, to meet all legal system requirements under 'Dangerous and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002' (DSEAR) & 'Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers 2000' (PSSR) legislation.
  • Create bespoke generic emission tests, to meet the client requirements and specifications, to include sample fill timing, volume, analysis mode, and applicable legislative limits.
  • Produce a bespoke gear-shift map for each vehicle & test type, using Horiba Stars-Vets software.
  • Monitor and implement calibration and maintenance requirements, in accordance with legislation, where applicable and within Lotus’ quality systems.
  • Work closely and build relationships with the test equipment suppliers.  
  • Develop recommendations for upgrades, to meet future legislation, and ensure a priority service, should an equipment failure be experienced.
  • In developing the state-of-the-art facility, provide an emissions testing service to the business to meet the Project team, Client program and Department Manager demand.
  • Work with the company and staff on both organisational and policy items.
  • The role is inter-departmental, both within the lab and other areas of the company.
  • Work with the emissions Lab and PMO in determining deliverables (including timings) and be able to organise the project workload, in conjunction with the PMO.
  • Refine and develop plans for future emission lab upgrades.
  • Split the shift to support double-shift working patterns occasionally.
  • Travel to test facilities in the UK/ Europe is likely – global travel is a possibility.

 

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

 

 

Essential:

 

  • Experience in Propulsion test cells and workshop operations at the pre-production phase, for powertrain build & test activities.
  • To be able to analyse problems and results and offer constructive responses to the Project Engineer/ customers.
  • A thorough understanding of emission testing legislation and its practical applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of emission test OS software and PC systems.
  • Must be able to use Horiba Stars-Vets OS at an advanced level.
  • Implement and maintain the company Health and Safety policy in the Emissions Lab.
  • To be able to liaise with customers/suppliers in meetings, whilst representing the company.
  • Able to work extended hours, to the support program delivery, as required.

 

 

 

Desirable:  

 

  • Has been involved with vehicle emissions homologation to include the delivery of at least 20 legally witnessed certification tests.
  • Business management qualification.
  • Extensive knowledge and involvement with vehicle emissions homologation activities and legal paperwork protocols.
  • Emission equipment OEM courses.
  • Formal H&S training/qualification, for example, IoSH/NEBOSH.
