Internship ADAS (M/F/D)

Geely Auto Technical (Deutschland) GmbH (GATD) is a R&D facility of Geely Auto Group in the heart of Germany and attracts top automotive talent in Europe. It puts technology and innovation at the forefront of its Group and is responsible for the development of premium and luxury vehicles under the Geely Auto umbrella. It will keep strengthening the strong presence that Geely Auto Group already has in the region while injecting a management style that is fit for Europe.

 

GATD is a global team developing and delivering excellent, innovative solutions in new electrified propulsion systems and next-generation mobility technologies. There are currently over 130 engineers (information stand: February 2021) from different backgrounds of OEMs and Tier-1s researching in a variety of projects for the Geely family. GATD works closely with other R&D centers of Geely worldwide and is growing rapidly with the plan of gathering 300 talents of all nationalities in the Frankfurt and Rhine Main area – in the center of Germany and in one of the most vibrant clusters for automotive industry.

Responsibilities:

 

We are searching for a student who has the willing to have experience in ADAS advanced technology. Below are the available project topics:

 

  • Subject 1: Sensors implantation
    • Define optimal position and number of sensors (Radar, Lidar, Camera) based on Simulation and supplier information
      • Based on simulation tools like CARLA, the student will be responsible to build a document, and/or 3D model resuming all the constraints to implement sensors in different area of the car for future advance project phase.
      • Propose new implantation respecting the function constraint and the sensor state of the art performance.
      • This activity requests physics/optics experiences.
      • It will be a good opportunity for the student to learn about sensor technologies, including new LIDAR technology, and vehicle integration.
      • Identify pros and cons of different number and positions of sensors with respect to performance and costs
        • Maybe create a tool for quick analysis (e.g. Excel)

 

  • Subject 2:  Statistics and reliability
      • Today we have difficulties to evaluate the number kilometer that we have to perform with the car or by simulation to guaranty the ADAS feature reliability.
      • Based on feature/function safety goal, the target is to define the necessary validation/verification/simulation quantity needed to guaranty the reliability of the function.

 

  • Subject 3:  Validation
    • Analysis of validation methods (Sim vs. real world) for ADAS level 3 function.
    • Market research on new validation tools and companies (make first contact)
      • Identify the different co-simulation methodology, and make a synthesis of it.
      • Check the one which is the most appropriate based on the environment we are working ( Supplier tier1 method,  internal strategy,...)
      • Identify critical maneuvers/scenarios and buildup a scenario catalogue for a dedicated function.
      • Setup of an simulation environment
    • Close loop sub-system simulation activity:
      • Define the right and best tool to perform sub-system close loop logic validation
      • Define the use case library to run to validate different feature
      • Delegate the run / execution activity to our China Engineering center, and provide necessary support.
    • Close loop vehicle level
      • Define the different technology solutions proposed on the market to perform simulation vehicle validation / verification for L3, including advantage/disadvantage, cost for one applicative project, investment and compare it with our competitor.
